AirAsia Red Run Da Nang 2026 : our 5km race experience

We lined up in the dark, just before sunrise, at East Sea Park in Da Nang. Thousands of runners were already stretching around us. Music played from the race village speakers, and the sea air felt cool for once. A few minutes later the horn went off. We were running the 5km AirAsia RedRun Da Nang, one of the biggest running events Da Nang has ever hosted. This blog shares our real experience joining the race. We cover the course, our tips, and everything you need to know before you run AirAsia RedRun next time.

What is AirAsia RedRun Da Nang?

AirAsia RedRun Da Nang 2026 was the first edition of this race in Vietnam. Organizers chose Da Nang to open the whole RedRun series. AirAsia and DHA Vietnam organized the event together. Nearly 8,000 runners from Vietnam and abroad joined, including runners from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. It didn’t feel like a small local fun run. It felt like a proper international race.

The event offered three distances:

  • 5km : the one we joined
  • 10km
  • 21km half marathon

So whether you are a casual runner like us or you train for something bigger, there is a distance for you.

Race location and course

The race started and finished at East Sea Park, in Sơn Trà District, Da Nang. This sits right along the coast. The course runs along wide city streets and beachside stretches. You get the East Sea on one side and Da Nang’s skyline on the other. Honestly, it might be one of the most scenic race routes we have run. You almost forget you’re racing, because you keep looking at the view.

Organizers placed water stations along the route. We appreciated this, since the morning humidity picks up fast once the sun is fully up.

Our 5km race experience

We signed up for the 5km distance. We mostly wanted to enjoy the race village atmosphere without pushing too hard. From our experience:

  • Staff set up the start area well, with clear signs for each distance group
  • The atmosphere before the start was one of the best parts, live music, a big crowd, and a real festival feeling
  • The course itself was flat and easy for a 5km, good for beginners or anyone who just wants to finish and enjoy it
  • Locals came out to cheer along the route, and that gave the run extra energy
  • The finish line at East Sea Park kept the same festival feeling as the start, with crowds waiting for runners

The race was good. It didn’t feel like just another race. It felt like Da Nang was showing off the city while we ran through it.

Race results, for reference

For those curious about the competitive side: Trinh Minh Tam won the men’s 21km half marathon, and Le Thi Lam won the women’s title. Tran Ba Cuong and Bui Thi Ngan took the top 10km spots. In our 5km category, Mai Quy Phong and Le Thi Tuyet finished first. We were nowhere close to those times. That’s not really the point of joining a race like this.

Since you’re already in the city, don’t just fly home right after. Here’s what we did after the race:

AirAsia RedRun Da Nang

  • Relaxed at My Khe Beach, close to East Sea Park
  • Walked along the Han River near Dragon Bridge in the evening
  • Had Vietnamese coffee at a café near the river, a good reward after a race
  • Tried local food at Han Market

AirAsia already flies direct between Bangkok and Da Nang, so it’s easy to plan this trip from Thailand. If running is part of your travel routine, check out our Running in Pattaya guide back home. Want to explore more of Vietnam while you’re in the region?
