Rice Fields Hoi An : Best Time, Where to Go and How to Visit
You can see the Hoi A rice fields without a tour, and it is free. We got walk in the morning. After for a while , the streets turned into green fields, water buffalo and quiet roads.

This guide tells you when to go, where to go and how to get there.
What are the Hoi An rice fields?
They are the farm fields in the countryside Hoi An. The land is flat, so there is no hiking. You just ride or walk on small roads. You can see farmers, water buffalo, ducks and white birds. Hoi An is not only lanterns and the Old Town.
Is there an entry fee for the Hoi An rice fields?
No. The fields are open to everyone, so walking or cycling is free. You only pay for extras, like a Hoi An countryside tour, a boat ride or a coffee.
Best time to see the rice fields
The fields are not green all year. After a harvest, the land is brown and empty. The good news is that Hoi An has two rice seasons, so you get two chances.
- March to April: Tall green rice, then gold before the harvest. Best for photos.
- May: Harvest time. The look changes fast.
- June: New small plants. The fields turn green again.
- July: Tall, bright green rice. Also great.
- October to November: Rainy season. Fields can be empty or wet.
- December to February: New rice grows. The weather is cooler.
The exact months change a little each year. We went in June, and the fields were green but not so full .

Our day at the rice fields
We stayed in Beach Front hotels Hoi An and left around 9am. Our first plan we walk to Hoi An old town but between the way we got the views from rice fields . We saw farmer and buffalo this make more feel touch to the local life. Then we had coffee at Hoi An Roastery and stop to another coffee places on the way we walk back. If you like cafes, see our Hidden River Cafe Hoi An review. We spent about 2 hours in total. And they are the good coffee and good vibes.
