Laem Si Chang Koh Si Chang: The Most Beautiful Viewpoint on the Island

Hi Traveler, have you ever wondered what the most beautiful viewpoint on Ko Sichang looks like? We were asking the same question when we first arrived on the island. Everyone talks about Chong Khao Khat and the ferry pier area, but nobody talks about Laem Si Chang Koh Si Chang. So we got on our scooters and went to find it ourselves.

Laem Si Chang is located on the northern part of Koh Si Chang island, in Chonburi province, Thailand. It is a cape, a small piece of land that stretches out into the sea, and from there you can see the ocean in almost every direction. When we arrived, we immediately understood why this place is special. The wind, the rocks, the open sea. It feels like you have the whole island to yourself.

In this blog, we will share everything about our experience at Laem Si Chang so you can decide if it belongs on your Koh Si Chang itinerary. Spoiler, it does..

Laem Si Chang Koh Si Chang

What is Laem Si Chang?

Laem in Thai means headland, a point of land that extends into the sea. So Laem Si Chang simply means the headland of Si Chang island. It sits on the northwestern tip of Koh Si Chang, and because it faces the open Gulf of Thailand, the views from this spot are completely unobstructed.

This is not a developed tourist attraction in Thailand. There is no ticket booth, no souvenir shop, and no tour guide waiting for you. That is exactly what makes it so good. You ride there, you stop your scooter, and you just stand and look at the sea. It is honest and simple and beautiful.

Most tourists who come to Koh Si Chang spend their time around the pier area and the main town. The northern part of the island where Laem Si Chang is feels like a different world. The roads are quiet, the air is fresh, and you can ride for long stretches without seeing another vehicle.

Our Experience

We started our morning at Sichang Boy cafe for a coffee, then rode north from the main town toward the haedland. The road that leads to Laem Si Chang goes up through some hills so you will need a scooter or motorbike to get there comfortably. It is not a walk you want to do in the afternoon heat.

As we got closer to the northern tip of the island the landscape changed. Fewer houses, more trees, more rock formations along the coast. The road narrows a little but it is still easy to ride. We passed a small area near the Pile of Stones a historic landmark connected to the Thai railway story and continued further toward the cape.

When we arrived at Laem Si Chang, the first thing we noticed was the wind. It was strong and cool, which felt amazing after riding in the sun. From the cape you can see the sea stretch out to the horizon, with small islands and cargo ships in the distance. The rock formations below are dramatic and the color of the water changes from green to deep blue depending on the time of day.

Is there an entry fee for Laem Si Chang?

No. There is no entry fee. You just ride there and enjoy the view for free.

Is it safe to visit?

Yes, but be careful near the rocks at the edge. The wind can be strong, especially in the afternoon. Stay on the path and keep a good distance from the cliff edge.

You can check out the video onec we visit there.

Best Time to Visit

Morning is our top recommendation. The light is soft, the wind is gentle, and you will most likely have the viewpoint completely to yourself. We went early and it was perfect.

Sunset is also a popular choice because the sky turns orange and pink over the sea. If you want to catch the sunset from Laem Si Chang, plan to arrive around 30 minutes before the sun goes down so you can find your spot and settle in.

Avoid midday if you can. The sun is very strong between 11:00–14:00.

  • November – February: Best weather, cool breeze, clear sky this is peak season for a reason
  • March – May: Hot and dry, still good visibility but bring water
  • June – October: Rainy season, the sea can be rough and the roads on the hills can be slippery
