Well, as I said, Lady Buddha statue isn’t just about the big statue you see from the beach, there is much more once you actually go up there.
What is Lady Buddha Da Nang
Lady Buddha, also called Quan The Am or the Goddess of Mercy, is a 67 meter tall statue standing inside Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula, around 10km northeast of Da Nang city center. It is one of the tallest Buddha statues in Vietnam and you can actually see her from many parts of the city, even from My Khe Beach on a clear day. The statue stands with her back to the mountain and her face looking out to the sea, and local fishermen believe she protects them and keep the waters calm before they go out to fish.
Lady Buddha from our experience
For this article, we will talk about our experience once we went to visit Lady Buddha Da Nang. We were staying near My Khe Beach and honestly we didn’t plan much, we just started walking up the Hoang Sa coastal road toward Son Tra Peninsula. It is further than it looks on the map, but the road itself is very scenic, ocean on one side and mountain on the other, so we didn’t mind the distance.
Once we arrived, a bit tired from the walk, we went through the main gate. The grounds are much bigger than we expected, with a courtyard full of Arhat statues before you even reach Lady Buddha herself. You can walk around the base and go inside the ground floor to see the small shrine, but the upper floors (there are 17 in total) are usually only open for religious ceremony, so don’t expect to climb all the way up.
Also, we saw a few monkeys walking around near the trees close to the temple. They are harmless but don’t carry snacks openly or try to feed them. After we finished looking around, we walked all the way back down to My Khe Beach too. If you are reasonably fit, walking both ways is doable, just bring water because there isn’t much shade on the way.

How to get there: The easiest way is Grab or taxi, around 15-20 minutes from My Khe Beach. If you are more confident on two wheels, renting a motorbike and riding. The Hoang Sa coastal road is honestly one of the best short rides in Da Nang. From Hoi An, expect around 45 minutes to an hour by car.
Opening hours: Daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Ticket price / Entry fee: There isn’t any entrance fee for Lady Buddha or Linh Ung Pagoda, it is completely free. You may want to leave a small donation inside the pagoda if you wish.
Dress code: As this is still an active place of worship, cover your shoulders and knees. If you forget, there are free robes at the entrance you can borrow.
Best time to visit Lady Buddha Da Nang
We would recommend going either early morning around 6:30am. It’s quiet and the monks are doing their chanting, or late afternoon close to golden hour, around 4:30-5:30pm. Avoid the middle of the day. If you go during the dry season (roughly January to September) because it gets very hot with not much shade.
