From Our Experience: Driving Near Elephants

Have you ever had an experience driving near elephants before?

We have — and it was both exciting and a little scary! As we approached Elefin Cafe, just before the gate, we spotted a local elephant handler riding one of the elephants right beside us. We were on the same path! Naturally, we slowed down and made sure not to startle them. Even though we felt a bit nervous, it was an amazing moment we won’t forget.

Once we arrived, the vibes were incredible. The area felt like a cozy elephant village nestled between lush green mountains. The café blends beautifully with nature, making you feel calm and connected to the surroundings.

Feed Elephants and Take Beautiful Photos

This is one of the few places in Chiang Mai where you can feed elephants sugarcane or bananas without needing a tour guide. The elephants are calm, friendly, and well cared for. Whether you’re a solo traveler or coming with family, this is a safe and peaceful place to get close to these majestic animals.

Moreover, don’t forget your camera! There are many photo spots around the café:

  • Wooden paths and viewing decks

  • Elephants walking through nature

  • Mountain views and cozy seating areas

As a result, it’s truly a photographer’s dream.
