1. Airport Rail Link (ARL) The Fastest Way

The fastest and most efficient way to travel from Suvarnabhumi International airport into the bangkok city center is via the Bangkok Airport train. As our experience suggests, this is by far the best alternative for single travelers and couples wishing to avoid traffic while saving money.

  • Fastest + budget-friendly → Take the Airport Rail Link, get off at Phaya Thai and connect to BTS

Basic information:

  • Operating hours: 05:30 – 00:00
  • Ticket price: ฿15 – ฿45 (depends on distance)
  • Boarding point: Level B (lowest floor) of the passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport
  • Journey time: approximately 25 – 30 minutes to Phaya Thai Station

How to get the ticket?

Once you are inside the airport, follow the signs to Level B (Basement). You will see the train station clearly marked. Buy your ticket from the automatic machines they are available in both Thai and English. You can only pay in Thai Baht (coins and notes).

Airport Rail Link Stations (Bangkok airport link)

The train runs from Suvarnabhumi into the city along 8 stations:

  1. Suvarnabhumi starting point (airport)
  2. Lat Krabang
  3. Ban Thap Chang
  4. Hua Mak
  5. Ramkhamhaeng
  6. Makkasan connects to MRT Blue Line (Petchaburi Station)
  7. Ratchaprarop near Pratunam area
  8. Phaya Thai connects to BTS Green Line (Skytrain)

Our tips for ARL:

  • If you stay near Siam, Asok or Sukhumvit get off at Phaya Thai and continue by BTS. This is the fastest route.
  • If you have a lot of luggage, try to board at the airport (first station) where there is more space.
  • During rush hours (07:00 – 09:00 and 17:00 – 19:00), the train can be very crowded. Give yourself a little extra time.

2. Airport Shuttle Bus Free but Limited

There is a free shuttle bus but it does not go to Bangkok city center. This bus operates between airport terminals and is mainly for transit passengers connecting to another flight. Don’t worry if you want to go into the city, you will need one of the other options in this guide.

  • Cheapest of all → Take the S1 public bus to Khao San Road

3. Public Bus S1 The Cheapest Way

The S1 airport bus is the most affordable option to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport into Bangkok. The ticket costs approximately ฿24 – ฿60, depending on where you get off.

  • Boarding point: Level 1 of the passenger terminal, Gate 7
  • Operating hours: 05:00 – 21:00
  • Ticket: cash only, buy from the conductor onboard

The S1 bus goes directly to Khao San Road perfect if you are staying in the old part of Bangkok near the backpacker area. The journey can take 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure you bring small Baht notes since the driver cannot give change for large bills.

4. Taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok Most Comfortable

Traveling alone or as a couple, arriving late at night → Taxi (meter + expressway)

How much is a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok?

A taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok city center costs approximately ฿250 – ฿400 including the expressway toll. This is a very popular option for travelers arriving late at night or those with heavy luggage.

  • Journey time: 30 – 50 minutes (depends on traffic)
  • Available: 24 hours
  • Taxi rank: Level 1, outside Doors 4 to 6, after Arrivals

Important things to know:

  • All airport taxis use a taximeter there are no fixed prices.
  • There is an additional ฿50 airport surcharge added on top of the meter.
  • If you take the expressway (we recommend this), you will also pay a ฿70 toll fee the driver will ask you before entering.
  • Also, you can use Grab but note that Grab can drop you off AT the airport but cannot pick you up FROM the airport. For pick-up from the airport, only metered taxis are allowed.

5. Private Transfer Best for Families

Traveling with family or lots of bags → Book a private transfer in advance
