Wattana Panich Beef Noodle: Legendary 50 year old Soup You Must Try in Bangkok
When visiting Bangkok, one food experience you simply can’t miss Wattana Panich beef noodle a legendary Michelin recognized restaurant known for its rich, flavorful broth that has been simmering for over 50 years. From our recent trip to Bangkok, we stayed at Charming Resident Ekkamai, and while searching for nearby food spots on Google Maps, we came across this famous restaurant in Bangkok. Luckily, it was only a short walk from our accommodation so of course, we had to try it.
What is Wattana Panich Beef Noodle?
Located on Ekkamai Road in the heart of Bangkok, Wattana Panich has become a must visit spot for food lovers looking to try authentic Thai beef noodle soup. The restaurant first opened in 1970, and what’s truly fascinating is that the beef broth never thrown away. Instead, it’s continuously simmered and added to daily a method called “perpetual stew.”
The Legendary 50-Year Broth
The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the sight of a giant bubbling pot filled with dark, rich broth and tender beef cuts floating on top. The aroma was deep, meaty, and comforting—you could smell the decades of flavor that had gone into that pot. The broth itself was smooth and complex, with layers of sweetness, umami, and just the right amount of herbal notes from traditional Chinese spices.
Every spoonful felt like a warm hug.
Reasonable Prices for Michelin Street Food
Despite its fame as a Michelin street food in Bangkok, Wattana Panich remains affordable. A bowl of the signature beef noodles costs around 100–200 THB, depending on your portion size and meat choices. You can also try the melt-in-your-mouth braised beef, beef soup with noodles, and stewed goat for something different.
