Herbal Pizza and Steak Da Nang: Pizza Festival review

We have been living in Vietnam for many months, and Da Nang still finds a way to surprise us. This time we went down to My Khe Beach on a day when two things were happening at once, the Herbal Pizza and Steak Da Nang. We tried the durian pizza, the coconut-avocado pizza, and the coconut-cheese-peanut pizza, so let us tell you honestly what was worth it and what wasn’t.

If you’re planning a trip to Da Nang and searching for real answers, here’s what you came for.

Is there an entry fee for the Herbal Pizza & Steak Festival?

There’s no entry fee to walk around the festival area on My Khe Beach. You only pay for what you eat. Here’s the pizza pricing from our visit:

  • Small tray pizza: 80,000 VND (roughly 100 THB / 2.50 EUR, exchange rates shift, so treat this as a rough guide)
  • Large tray pizza: 100,000–120,000 VND

You buy your ticket at the box office first, then bring it over to collect your pizza. Simple in theory, just budget extra time, because it wasn’t always smooth in practice (more on that below).

What does Herbal Pizza and Steak Da Nang’s durian pizza taste like?

Honestly? You can barely taste the durian. What you get is closer to a cheese pizza with a faint fruity note in the background. It’s a fun once-in-a-lifetime thing to try, but it’s not something we’d order again at a regular restaurant.

Our ranking of the three pizzas we tried:

  1. Coconut, cheese & peanut, the best of the three, good balance of salty and sweet
  2. Durian interesting, but the flavor is too subtle to justify the price
  3. Avocado & coconut the flattest of the three, it needed salt

Is Herbal Pizza and Steak Da Nang well organized?

This is the part we want to be upfront about. Staff placed the order tables close to the ovens, so it wasn’t always clear what you were ordering until it arrived. We ended up waiting more than two hours for one pizza tray because the system lost our order. The staff couldn’t refund us, so they just remade the order instead.

If you’re planning to go, our advice: build in extra time, and don’t go on an empty stomach expecting a quick bite.

What’s the atmosphere like at Herbal Pizza and Steak Da Nang?

The setup itself deserves credit, the team built the wood-fired ovens really well. One takes the shape of a dragon bridge, and others echo different regions of Vietnam. In the evening, the music picks up, there’s a lot of wood smoke, and quite a few people smoking cigarettes around the seating area.

Our tip: if you’re bringing kids, go in the afternoon rather than the evening. It’s calmer, and easier to actually enjoy the food stalls without the crowd.

How to get to My Khe Beach

Is it worth going?

If a food festival like this is happening again while you’re in Da Nang, yes, go for the novelty of trying durian pizza at least once, and enjoy the atmosphere of the ovens and the beach setting. Just don’t expect fast service, and don’t build your whole day around it.

We walked the whole area on video, from My Khe Beach through the street food stalls to the pizza zone, then over to the AirAsia RedRun expo where they had gels, supplements, and registration open.
