Accommodation is usually the biggest daily expense in Thailand. But don’t worry Thailand has options for every budget, from cheap guesthouses to luxury beachfront resorts.

How much does accommodation cost per day in Thailand?

Hostel / dorm bed: ฿300 – ฿500 per night (~$5 – $15 USD)
Budget guesthouse or hotel (private room): ฿600 – ฿1,500 per night (~$18 – $42 USD)

From our experience, Pattaya has some of the best value for money for accommodation in all of Thailand. You can find a very comfortable condo or hotel room for ฿800 – ฿1,500 per night in Jomtien or Naklua area. We have stayed at several places around Pattaya and can recommend:

This is where Thailand really shines. Food is incredibly affordable here, especially if you eat like a local which we highly recommend!

Street food meal (pad thai, rice dish, noodles): ฿50 – ฿80 per dish (~$1 – $2 USD)
Local restaurant meal: ฿60 – ฿200 per meal (~$2 – $6 USD)
Western restaurant or tourist-area café: ฿150 – ฿500 per meal (~$6 – $14 USD)
Fine dining restaurant: ฿500 and above per meal ($15+ USD)

From our experience, if you eat Thai food from street stalls and local markets, you can comfortably budget ฿200 – ฿500 per day for all meals. If you prefer a mix of Thai food and Western meals, then ฿500 – ฿1,200 per day is a realistic estimate.

Getting around Thailand is very affordable, especially if you use the local options instead of private taxis.

Grab or Bolt car ride: ฿80 – ฿250 per trip depending on distance
Bangkok BTS Skytrain: ฿16 – ฿59 per trip
Bangkok MRT: ฿16 – ฿42 per trip
Bus from Bangkok to Pattaya: ฿190– ฿350 (~$3 – $10 USD)

If you are planning a trip from Bangkok to Pattaya, you can take the bus from North Pattaya Bus Station it is cheap and convenient.

How to Save Money on Your Thailand Travel Cost Per Day

Here are some practical tips from our own experience to reduce your Thailand travel cost per day:

Eat local food street stalls and local markets are the biggest way to save. You can eat a full meal for ฿60 – ฿100.
Use the baht bus in Pattaya it’s only ฿10 per ride and runs all along the beachfront roads.
Use Grab or Bolt instead of regular taxis the price is set upfront and you avoid overcharging.
Visit free attractions first most beaches in Thailand have no entry fee. Go to Pattaya City View Point, Lumpini Park Bangkok, or Benjakitti Park Bangkok for free.
Travel off-peak June to September gives you cheaper hotels and flights with still plenty of sunshine.
