Hi Traveler, have you ever wondered what’s really inside Marble Mountains Da Nang? This blog gives you a full Marble Mountain Da Nang review, so you can decide if this stop belongs on your Vietnam trip. Marble Mountains isn’t just a quick photo stop between Da Nang and Hoi An. There is a full Da Nang mountain of caves, pagodas, and viewpoints here, and most tourists only see half of it.
We made a full video walking you through the Da Nang mountain temple, step by step, as if we were there together. It covers the entrance fee, whether the elevator is worth paying for, and what’s inside each cave and pagoda. We also cover whether Am Phu Cave, also called the Gate to Hell, is worth the extra ticket.
Is there an entry fee for Marble Mountains Da Nang?
Yes. Here are the exact prices from our visit:
- Main area entrance (Thuy Son / Water Mountain): 40,000 VND per person (approximately €1.20)
- Map and postcards: 15,000 VND (optional, but worth it so you don’t get lost inside)
- Am Phu Cave (separate site): 20,000 VND per person (approximately 75 cents)
This is a common question because in some countries, entrance fees to natural attractions can be much higher. At Marble Mountains, though, the ticket is affordable. It gives you access to almost every cave and pagoda on Thuy Son.

Elevator or stairs, which one should you take?
The elevator is paid separately and is not included in the entrance ticket. You have two options:
- Take the elevator if you have limited mobility or are traveling with elderly family. It’s also a good pick if you don’t want to arrive at the top sweating in the Da Nang heat.
- Walk up the stairs, it only takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and it’s not as difficult as you might think. We walked up ourselves and it was manageable, even in the heat.
Also, many visitors take the elevator up and walk down the stairs on the other side. That way you get the view both ways without paying twice.
Difficulty and what to bring
At temperatures around 30°C (86°F), some sections can be quite slippery on the polished marble floors. This is especially true near the caves and inside the darker passages. Good grip shoes and plenty of water will help a lot. This is not a hard hike, but there is a lot of walking and climbing between caves, pagodas, and viewpoints. Pace yourself.
The restrooms on site are free and, honestly, surprisingly clean for an outdoor attraction like this.
Marble Mountains Da Nang from our experience
For this article, we will talk about our experience once we went to visit Marble Mountains in Da Nang. We planned around half a day for the visit, since we wanted to see all the caves, viewpoints, and pagodas, not rush through in an hour like a lot of tour groups do. Below, we’ll guide you through what we found, step by step, following the same order as our video.
Things to do inside Marble Mountains (Thuy Son / Water Mountain)
Here is what you’ll find walking through the mountain, from the entrance to the top:
- Xa Loi Tower one of the first landmarks after the entrance road
- Linh Ung Pagoda an active pagoda, still used for worship
- Tang Chon Cave one of the smaller caves early in the route
- Viewpoint overlooking the surrounding area before you continue up
- Van Thong Cave a longer cave section
- Linh Nham Cave light passes through natural holes in the rock here, creating a dramatic effect
- Highest peak Marble Mountain the top viewpoint, with views over My Khe Beach and the river
- Hoa Nghiem Cave and Huyen Khong Cave Huyen Khong is the largest and most famous cave in the whole complex
- Tam Thai Pagoda a major pagoda near the top
- Tam Tom Pagoda one of the final stops on the route
The camera in our video can’t capture everything. The smell of the rock, the cool air inside the caves, and the incense from the pagodas are all part of the experience you only get in person.
Is Am Phu Cave (Gate to Hell) worth the extra ticket?
Am Phu Cave has a separate entrance fee of 20,000 VND, about 75 cents. It’s not included in the main ticket. From our experience, yes, it’s worth adding on. It’s a different kind of cave compared to the ones on Thuy Son. Statues along the walk depict Buddhist concepts of heaven and hell. It’s a short visit, but it’s unlike anything else in the complex.
Marble Mountains Da Nang opening hours
The site is open daily. Plan for half a day if you want to see the caves, pagodas, and viewpoints properly. A couple of hours is enough if you’re only doing the main highlights, like Huyen Khong Cave and the top viewpoint.
Marble Mountains vs Hoi An, is it worth visiting?
Personally, it was a much grander experience for us than Hoi An itself. If you are planning a Da Nang to Hoi An itinerary, include Marble Mountains along the way. It sits right on the route between the two, so there’s no reason to skip it.
