Hi Traveler, have you just landed in Bangkok and are wondering how to get from Bangkok airport to city center without spending too much? You are not alone! Every day, thousands of tourists arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport BKK and ask the same question. In this guide, we will walk you through every option from the fastest train to the most budget-friendly bus so you can choose what works best for you.
Which Bangkok Airport Did You Land At?
First of all, Bangkok has two main international airports. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is the larger one and handles most international flights. Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is the second airport, mostly used by low-cost airlines. Both airports are well connected to the city. However, your transport options are slightly different depending on which one you arrive at. Make sure you check your ticket before you travel!
The Bangkok airport to city centre distance from Suvarnabhumi is around 25–30 km. Whether you travel from Bangkok airport to center or the other way from Bangkok city center to airport the same transport options apply. Travel time varies a lot depending on traffic and your chosen transport.
Bangkok Airport to City Center Option 1 : Bangkok Airport Rail Link (Cheapest & Fastest )
The Bangkok Airport Rail Link is by far the most popular choice for budget travelers. It connects Suvarnabhumi airport to Bangkok city directly and quickly. The Bangkok Airport Link runs from the basement level of the airport just follow the signs to B1 Floor. Taking the Bangkok airport to city center train is simple, affordable, and stress-free.
Airport Rail Link Bangkok price (also known as Airport Link Bangkok price):
Airport Rail Link | ฿15–฿45 | 30 min | Budget travelers
The City Line stops at 8 stations and ends at Phaya Thai Station, where you can transfer directly to the BTS Skytrain (Airport Link BTS connection). This makes it super easy to reach Sukhumvit, Silom, or Siam. The journey takes around 30 minutes from end to end.
Bangkok Airport Rail Link timetable:
- Trains run from 05:30 – 00:00daily
- Frequency every 10 – 15 minutes
From our experience, this is the best option if you travel light and stay near a BTS station. Also, the train is air-conditioned and very clean. It is hard to beat for the price!
Bangkok Airport to City Center Option 2 : Official Taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport
Taking a taxi from Bangkok international airport to city is simple and convenient.
The taxi cost (Bangkok center to airport or reverse): around ฿300–฿500 THB ($8–$14 USD), depending on traffic. The taxi is a great option if you travel with heavy luggage or arrive late at night. Rush hour can make the trip longer sometimes up to 1 hour or more.
Option 3 : Grab Car (Easy & Transparent Price)
Getting from Bangkok airport to city centre by Grab is another smart option. Grab works like Uber and gives you a fixed price before you confirm the ride. Therefore, there are no surprises with the fare.
Open the Grab app, set your destination, and select the pickup point at the 1st floor public area outside arrivals. Prices are similar to or slightly higher than metered taxis. However, Grab is more comfortable because you know the exact cost upfront. From our experience, it works very smoothly at Suvarnabhumi.
Option 4 : Public Bus (The Cheapest Way)
If you want the cheapest way possible for getting from Bangkok airport to city centre, take the public bus. Buses depart from the 1st floor at the Public Transportation Center.
Bus cost: Around ฿30–฿60 THB (~$0.85–$1.70 USD)
The downside is that buses are slower and less convenient with large bags. Also, finding the right bus can be confusing for first-time visitors.
Don Mueang Airport to City Center
For travelers landing at Don Mueang, the transport options are different. There is no airport rail link at DMK. Instead, you can take the SRT Red Line commuter train nearby, a taxi, Grab, or the public bus. The Red Line connects to Bang Sue Grand Station (Krung Thep Aphiwat), which is a major transport hub.
Taxi fares from Don Mueang are similar to Suvarnabhumi around ฿200–฿400 THB plus tolls.
